My own journey to recovering my health, in more ways than I ever imagined, by adopting a plant-based diet (and lifestyle) has changed my life and given me tremendous insight into the many challenges one will encounter on this path. I'm 5'4" and was over 200 lbs in this picture, having almost daily headaches and visual migraines, constant aches and pains, no energy and in denial about my health issues. Not long after this picture I was put on high blood pressure medicine after pushing it as far off as I could convince my doctor. This reality hit me hard - I couldn't deny what was going on any longer! Thank goodness it was the thing that finally woke me up, instead of wallowing in bad health, and kicked off my plant-based journey. My experience enables me to bring a high level of empathy, respect, understanding and knowledge. There is a lot of judgement and shame out in the world, as well as an overwhelming amount of information, often times conflicting, which makes it difficult to make the best choice(s) to support one's individual health. We each have a unique story, journey and goals and I'm here to support you with personal experience, knowledge and without judgement.
I've been plant-based since July 26, 2010 (yes, I will always remember that date). I started to explore, read and learn a few months before that date and have continued to expand my knowledge every chance I get. Reading the latest science and pushing myself to be open and challenge my mind in order to increase my knowledge and abilities. Some examples of this include getting my Plant-Based Nutrition Certificate from e-Cornell and the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies in 2017, completing the Forks Over Knives Ultimate Cooking Course through Rouxbe and my latest learning and certification comes from being an inaugural participant in the Plant-Based Coaching Certification program with Food Revolution Network. If I can't answer your questions with my current knowledge, I'll research it and find a science-backed answer/resource to support your journey.
